Eastbourne Beach Hut
In early 2016 Periscope was shortlisted for the Eastbourne Beach Hut competition. The beach hut was a reinterpretation of the vernacular seaside beach hut found on beaches across the United Kingdom since the Victorian period.
The hut was to be constructed from beach driftwood collected by members of the community and formed into the skin of the building. The wood was to be cast into concrete shell of the beach hut, which over time would shed its skin to reveal the negative form of the driftwood. The interior was made from CNC cut plywood panels arranged to focus a single view to the sea and a peak at the rear to view the sky.
