Slakthusområdet
Slakthusomradet is a new arts school and public realm competition for Stockholm’s University of Arts.
The project co-locates Stockholm University of the Arts’ circus, dance, film, media, opera, performing arts and acting facilities in the industrial slaughterhouse area of Stockholm. In collaboration with Henning Larsen and Kjellander Sjoberg, we developed an open urban stage that extends the public realm seamlessly from outside to in, as an ode to the performance of the city. The project proposes a stage for artistic experimentation, for everyday urban life, and for the weather; with floodable areas celebrating environmental as well as social performances. A place of experimental education and collaborative exchange, the project looks to raise the local cultural offer and retain the rich industrial heritage.
